Finning used a dedicated ports day in Hull to launch its new ‘Ship to Shore to Store’ total port cargo handling solution in partnership with port specialist equipment manufacturer MultiDocker.
The event also hosted by RMS Group and Österströms was attended by UK port operators from across the country. Attendees saw for the first time how Caterpillar® and MultiDocker equipment, are used to provide a complete cargo handling solution supplied and supported by Finning, the sole dealer of Caterpillar and MultiDocker equipment in the UK. The live demonstration showcased a wide variety of cargoes transported by ship that could be efficiently re-handled at a port.
The demonstrations showcased a full range of port spec equipment, including Caterpillar wheel loaders, skid steers, telehandlers, articulated dump trucks (ADT) and material handlers, complete with a range of Cat attachments. Finning’s ship to shore to store proposition is further backed up by its existing national service network, as Finning’s strategic ports manager, Richard Root explains:
“Our new proposition of ship to shore to store is fundamentally based around the fact that no matter what location our port customers are operating from, they are supported by local engineers and have a Finning branch no more than two hours away from any major port in the UK.
“As the only equipment supplier in the UK to have this breadth of equipment range along with this level of national service support, Finning can provide a service offering which allows customers the benefit of one point of call for all their ship to shore to store operations. We have even taken onboard servicing support for non-Caterpillar equipment on site at the request of customers.
“Even though we have been working in the ports sector for many years, this is the first time we have been able to put together a complete product and service support proposition from ship to shore to store by using Caterpillar and MultiDocker products.
“What is really exciting about this proposition is that is brings together the MultiDocker, which uses a modified Caterpillar 365 or 385 excavator and is manufactured from 95% of Caterpillar OEM components. The technology along with genuine Cat parts are tried and tested for outstanding performance. The machines are built for maximum performance and are specifically developed to suit the demands of the port environment, which coupled with our nationwide service and parts resources, provide a very strong proposition to our UK port industry.
